CityNews – The Municipality of Chiang Mai has announced their official plans for the Loy Kratong Festival this year, highlighting that the event will be under the concept of divine grace following the death of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
The official event will take place between November 12 to 15, with all activities taking a calm approach to appreciating divine grace.
They plan to light 99,999 Lanna candles and have 20 processions around the city. They require anyone who is participating or joining the events to wear mourning colours, black or white. Decoration of the city and such must be only in white, black, navy blue or dark red.
The main events will take place along the Ping River near the Chiang Mai Municipality Offices.
There will still be a Kratong decoration contest and procession, under the theme of royal grace that the late King has given the people of Chiang Mai.
No entertainment activities will be allowed.
