CityNews- July 19, a freelance tour guide, Warawuth Areepan and the representatives of tour guides in Chiang Mai joined forces to send a letter of complaint about foreign tour guides illegally working here, to Chiang Mai Tourist Police Station.
The letter states that illegal tour guides do not have licence to work here and should therefore be stopped.
Warawuth explained that the group have complained numerous times about this issue but yet nothing is being done. He says that some legal Thai tour guides have also been threatened by illegal guides who claim to have strong connections with the police and whom have threatened to have legal licences revoked.
According to the Act of Tourism and Guide Registration 2008, without Thai ID cards, you cannot be a licenced tour guide. Evidence, including many photographs, were also handed into the police.
The police have pledged to investigate.
