I am going to be completely honest with you. It has been a very tough year or two for us here at Citylife. Print media, as you all know, has a very precarious and uncertain future, and while we understand that the world has changed, and have adjusted our online presence accordingly, I still believe that there is demand for our magazine. In fact, judging by the near-daily emails requesting distribution locations, I know that we have far more readers than we can publish for every month.
For over 25 years we have published news, interviews, analyses, exposes, features, humour, lifestyle and a plethora of articles about Chiang Mai and the north of Thailand for you to read.
But this has all been supported by our wonderful advertisers, who unfortunately have also been hurting as the economy seems to be flat lining.
For 309 months over two and a half decades, we provided our readers with a copy of Citylife magazine. Spoon&Fork, our food magazine, has also recently celebrated its two year milestone. Then we have our events guide and map, CityNow! which is distributed every fortnight all over the city. That is a lot of printing…and with more and more businesses look towards online advertising, the future is not looking too viable.
I don’t want to see Citylife go the way of so many other publications, though it may be inevitable. I would, however, like to ask for your support to help us to continue to be able to bring you valuable information and interesting articles for you to read each month.
I have had few rough knocks of late, professionally and personally, but I am a fighter and I believe in the value of what we do. I would like to continue to be able to question, probe and prod on your behalf, delivering you quality content and pertinent information for you to read each and every month. There are so many issues Chiang Mai is facing — the ongoing annual air pollution, the increase in traffic congestion, the unchecked urban development, the list goes on…
So, with ego cast aside, I come hat in hand to ask my readers to help us to continue to publish our magazine. All I ask is that you take out an annual subscription, visit us online at ChiangMaiCitylife.com regularly to see what our clients have to say, come and like us on social media (Facebook pages: Chiang Mai Citylife, Chiang Mai CityNews, CityNow, Spoon and Fork by Citylife and Instagram: Citylifechiangmai) and tell us, and by extension our clients, that you value what we do.
I hope that with your support I will be writing for you all for many years to come.
On that sad note, I am going to do everything on my part to make sure that we will continue our dialogue with you and wish you a wonderful holiday season full of love, laughter and lots of pressies!
