CityNews – Ramkhamhaeng Hospital held a blessings ceremony to begin the demolishment of the abandoned Poi Luang Hotel.
A blessings ceremony to kick off the demolishment of Poi Luang Hotel was held on July 25th. Ramkhamhaeng Hospital PCL, which is investing in the second Chiang Mai Ram Hospital, has reportedly purchased the property for 400 million baht. The plan is to demolished the old buildings within 135 days starting August 1st this year.
The new hospital is expected to be a large hospital with 250 beds. The budget is set at 1.6 billion baht. The construction is scheduled to begin in 2020 and is to be completed by 2022.
Back in 1977 when Poi Luang Hotel was newly established, it was the biggest five stars hotel Chiang Mai had ever had with 220 accommodation rooms and a rotational restaurant on the top floor. It was the most luxurious destination for both leisure and business travellers. The hotel, however, did not survive the turbulent economic climate. The business collapsed and the building has been left abandoned for decades. Now, the hotel is known for being one of the most haunted places in Chiang Mai.
Hence, today’s blessing ceremony.
