One man has reportedly died from the virus, the Covid Response Centre announced today. A 66 year old American citizen who had already received two doses of Moderna vaccinations from abroad passed away after a lengthy stay in hospitals. A diabetic, he was discovered to have contracted the virus on the 17th September, was admitted into hospital on the 27th September and passed away on the 18th October. He is the 45th person to have died from Covid-19 in Chiang Mai province since the start of the pandemic.
In other Covid-related news, the Covid Response Centre has announced the closure of Warorot, Tom Lamyai and Dok Mai Markets from today until the 23rd October, following the discovery of a further 37 people in the area who have tested positive.
Vendors, families of vendors and those who have come into close contact with locals in the market are being given doses of the vaccination in hopes of curbing the spread.
Omkoi District has been ordered to set up a Community Isolation Centre, with a lockdown of all households and halt of all movements within the district.
The number of new cases reported today has risen to 357. Multiple clusters have emerged and authorities say that they are monitoring them as closely as possible.
