CityNews – Governor Charoenrit Sanguansat, announced that on the morning of the 13th March, there were a total of 683 hotspots across Chiang Mai, with the majority found in Om Koi District (107) followed by 101 in Phrao and 70 in Hod. He said that while the response has been immediate, many of these fires are very hard to reach and contain due to terrain.
He has therefore asked for air support from the Disaster Prevention Centre who have agreed to provide extra helicopters as of today, 16th March.
In the meanwhile an army of soldiers, police, firefighters, forest rangers, national park personnel, village and community support and volunteers will continue to scour the forests and mountains to alert authorities of any fires.
