Air pollution arrives early

Chiang Mai is now becoming blanketed with the annual air pollution. The viewpoint on Doi Suthep and the mountain range separating Chiang Mai and Lampang are hidden under the haze.

The Climate Change Data Center, Chiang Mai University, reported that hourly air quality at 1 pm and that PM 2.5 dust levels exceeded standards in many districts. The highest is at Chiang Mai University, Suthep district, at 65 micrograms per cubic meter. PM2.5 dust levels exceeded the standard during the same period at 49 out of 79 monitoring points in 25 districts. The continuous increase is a sign of the air pollution period in Chiang Mai.

The Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Gistda) reported that currently, GISTDA has used data from NOAR 20 and NOAR 21 satellites to increase the potential for data tracking to 10 times per day, which helps to manage forest fires better.
