Mars’s very elliptical orbit means that the planet’s distance to earth shifts by tens of millions of kilometres.
Star gazers in 2018 were thrilled when the red planet came as close as 57.59 million kilometres to our blue planet. So while this current distance isn’t as thrilling as 2018’s, people still flocked to the telescopes of Princess Sirindhorn AstroPark last night to spy the red planet as it skirted by earth by a mere 96.1 million kilometres.
