CityNews – 30th March 2016, a meeting between authorities in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao and Phitsanuloke gathered at a conference to discuss how to mitigate the dangers of drinking and driving during the 7 Deadly Days of Songkran.
The campaign, “Return Home Safely, Thais Don’t Drink and Drive,” will be in effect for the sixth year with this year’s initiatives having started many weeks ago in numerous villages and communities having received talks and materials as well as having held activities about the dangers of drinking and driving. NGOs, the police, government officials, public health department, land transportation department and emergency rescue groups have all come tighter on this campaign.
The deputy governor announced that during the Songkran period Chiang Mai will see a total of 50 official alcohol checkpoints as well as a further community-led 2,066 checkpoints in villages and towns all over the province.
