CityNews – 8th March 2017, at the Department of Special Investigations, 5th Region, the deputy director of investigations, along with many experts in the field, announced that there has been a glut of diet pills in Chiang Mai which are very dangerous and can even lead to death.
Around 100,000 Sibutramine and HI Herb Slimming pills have been confiscated along with 106 crates of AIKO food supplement totalling around ten million baht in street value.
According to authorities, teenagers, students and young women are taking these pills in droves and warn that the side effects are very dangerous. Nausea, sleeplessness, nervous system failure, loss of appetite and dry mouth are all side effects to be expected. These pills do indeed lead to weight loss, but it will also affect the digestive system and can lead to strokes or heart issues which can cause death.
There have already been many cases of recorded deaths following the consumption of these pills.
After a six month investigation, authorities say that both HI Herb Slimming and Sibutramine have fake food and drug administration licences and both directly target teenagers and youths.
