Bright red building told to repaint, failing building ordinance

Social media has been abuzz recently as this long-standing building next to the Three Kings Monument square was painted red over the past few weeks, with many netizens complaining about not only the unsightly colour, but the fact that it didn’t conform to the municipal ordinance.

The municipality has issued a letter to the building owners, who are apparently foreign investors hoping to turn the old cafe into an ice cream shop, ordering them to repaint the building within 30 days of receiving the order.

According to new ordinances signed by the municipality in 2014, all buildings within the old moat must have at least 80% of their exterior painted only in earth tones or natural colours. Only 30% of buildings may be reflective in surface.

The owner said that they will fix the problem immediately and apologise, saying that they didn’t know of this ordinance.
