Chiang Mai is finally getting back to normal after the major flooding at the beginning of the month. Many of the worst-hit areas of the city are now free of mud, dirt, and errant garbage that was carried with the floodwater.
One of the most touching aspects of the flood has been the massive response of locals ready to help the worst-affected people and business. Over the past 2 weeks, various organizations have mobilized their forces to help with recovery efforts, mostly concerning cleanup efforts and waste collection. Last week, Chiang Mai Municipality, Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organization, as well as scores of government departments, private agencies, volunteers, and locals worked together to clean up the streets, especially in tourist and economic areas. Right now, the city is very close to being returned to its normal state.
Importantly for the tourism industry, landmark tourist spots and economic areas are now back to normal. This includes the famous Night Bazaar, an area that historically has always suffered greatly from severe flooding.
