Chiang Mai’s Songkran road accidents halved this year

The Chiang Mai Traffic Police have just released this year’s numbers for road accidents, which have lessened in number from previous years. According to Traffic Police, Chiang Mai witnessed 25 road accidents, which have more than halved in number from the previous three year average of 55 per year (between the 11th and 17th of April).

The Traffic Police went on to say that 60% of all accidents come from speeding vehicles with drunk driving being the next culprit. Most accidents occur on minor roads in communities where people are celebrating roadside, with the vast majority of accidents happening after dark. Eighty percent of accidents involved motorcycles with deaths resulting from people not wearing helmets.
