Eight new AT-6TH attack jets to be based in Chiang Mai

Wing 41 Chiang Mai has just announced that The Royal Thai Air Force has brought the first of four pairs of Textron Aviation AT-6 Wolverine light attack aircraft, designated as AT-6TH, to be based at squadron 411 which is part of the Wing 41 base here in Chiang Mai.

The aircrafts will replace Aero Vodochody L-39s that were decommissioned in 2021. 

Eight pilots, trained in the US, will be based in Chiang Mai and flying the eight planes which cost 4.5 billion baht and were ordered at the 2021 Dubai Airshow. 

The remaining six air crafts will arrive later this year. 

The attack aircraft, which fly at around 250-300 knots for up to four hours, are perfect for patrolling the borders as well as offering air support to grounds fighters, a representative of Wing 41 told the media as well as members of the public invited to view the newly arrived aircraft today.
