March 13th, is the Thai national Elephant Conservation Day and a special exhibition is being out on at the International Convention Centre to raise both awareness and funds about the current plight of elephant conservation in Thailand.
For the first time, forest leaves and branches, causes for much of the forest fires across the Northern region, are being collected and sold, as part of a programme to help lessen the forest detritus while also providing a living to villagers. Some of these materials have been used to create these relief art works of elephants.
Suree, an elephant which loves to paint, from Mae Sa Elephant Camp, has also painted a picture, embedded into the art work.
These prices of art hope to highlight the entire ecosystem which is currently under threat and affecting not just the lives of elephants and people, but the health of the environment. Pieces are for sale.
