Following earthquake, four buildings deemed unsafe until further inspection

Governor Nirat Pongsitthavorn met with top Chiang Mai officials this afternoon to discuss and assess damages across Chiang Mai. A total of four condominiums have now been declared unfit and all residents told to evacuate. The owner of Duangtawan Condominium, which has suffered from structural damages, and was ordered shut by the municipality, has been sought and will soon be meeting with the governor to discuss safety precautions. Suphalai condominiums 1&2 and Suan Dok Park parking building will also have to undergo a full inspection before deemed fit for residents or customers. Authorities say that no obvious structural damages have been noticed at these three buildings, with only surface damages, which means residents are still allowed access to collect their necessities. The gymnasium at the Old Municipal Stadium as well as the second floor of Arcade Bus Station have been set up as temporary shelter by the municipality. While numerous patients at Maharaj and Lanna Hospitals were evacuated at the time of the earthquake, as well as the following hours as aftershocks came, they have now all returned and it is believed that both hospitals are structurally sound. San Sai Ton Kok temple in San Phew Sua Subdistrict and Nam Lom temple in Sankampaeng subdistrict have also been damaged with some cracks to their stupa and viharn. No other major damages have been reported at this time. Though many buildings and homes have been seen with surface damages and cracks.
