Thai Sky Doctors from Maharaj Chiang Mai hospital received the Hero Award from Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnviraku for their tireless work in helping patients in the medical region 1.
Cheodpongs Panya, a member of theĀ Sky Doctor team, which Citylife has featured, said that the team is on standby at all times to evacuate those in urgent medical needs from the remotest northern regions of Thailand.
The team comprises 20 volunteer medical doctors and is centred out of Maharaj Hospital. However, because the team is reliant on donated helicopter services, mainly from the military, it is still not as efficient and as fast as it would like to be Said Cheodpongs, who said that it would be ideal if the team could have an aircraft of their own.
Choedpongs went on to say that in the decade since the team began its operations, it has taken a total of 489 trips, mostly for victims of strokes, heart attacks, severe brain injuries or others. The majority of people survived.
