A ceremony was held on 11th February as the Japanese Consul General, Harada Masaru, officially handed over 514,500 baht to purchase a high speed boat for emergency rescue. This boat will mean that no one travels more than two hours to a hospital.
The Saladin River runs 43 kilometres along the Thai-Myanmar border, with over 90% of the river running through wild jungle terrain. The mountainous terrain is inconstant flux as roads collapse and lands slide, meaning that the 14,000 people who live in this area often struggle to get access to hospitals and other urgent matters. it can take up to five hours by road to travel to hospital.
