Citylife is happy to announce that up to 400 pavement billboards will be removed from across the city by the end of the year, according to Mayor Assanee Buranupakorn. To date 130 have been removed.
Citylife spent many years leading a campaign to abolish advertising signs from public spaces as you can read in this article here. We also set up a Facebook page called Sign City and have attempted to sway many mayors to the cause.
While it is no doubt that it was the drastic 90% reduction in collectible signage tax, in accordance to a change in the law in January 2021 which led to this grand gesture, Chiang Mai will greatly benefit from the lack of these eyesores.
