The municipality is working alongside some private companies to test the use of microorganisms in cleaning up the moat.

This experiment was first done in the moat by Chiang Saen road, and after twenty days of treatment tests have shown that the quality of water is much better, in fact, it is now so clean, said authorities, that people can swim in it.

The municipality said that it will now expand this treatment to the entire moat. The municipality also said that there has been contact from the Vietnamese government to look into this technique.

According to authorities, the microorganisms react to waste water and rotten vegetation as well as household waste. The water is then churned in a sink tank and a process of suction churns the waste water around to be cleansed.
