CityNews – 5th March 2020, officials from the office of provincial commercial affairs Chiang Mai inspected numerous shops around Chiang Mai following rumours that some places were overpricing face masks.
One shop was found to have been selling masks at inflated rates and according to the law they are liable to be fined no more than 140,000 baht and or jailed for up to seven years. For not displaying the correct pricing, they also face a further 10,000 baht fine.
With a dearth of masks on the market, the authorities are asking all businesses to please step up and do not use this crisis as an opportunity to take advantage.
