CityNews – A hotel’s lift full of Chinese tourists sagged underweight causing panic.
The incident occurred on the evening of November 27th when a Chinese tour group arrived at an unnamed hotel in town and were finishing checking in. About 15 tourists crammed in an elevator trying to get to the 7th floor. The weight limit of the elevator was at 10 people but they were reportedly ignoring the overload alarm. Once the door closed, the lift ended up falling a mere half a foot from its base.
It took about two minutes for hotel staff to rescue the people stuck in the elevator but when the door reopened, the panicked tourists were rushing out, stepping on one another causing minor injuries to four people and one person who ended up with a sprained ankle.
According to the report, the hotel will have a staff stationed at the lift to prevent such incidents in the future.
