For generations, Muang Sat Luang Village in Nong Hoi Sub district have been making lanterns, mostly sold as decoration during the annual Loy Krathong festival.
Following two yeas of bleak sales, 37 year old vendor Panita Kritsajantivaree told CityNews that she is no longer able to keep up with orders for this year’s upcoming festival.
Loy Krathong (yipeng) will be held this year on the 7th-9th November, a citywide event which will hopefully resume to its previous splendor after years of the pandemic.
According to Panita, all hands in her village are on deck, supplying lanterns to hotels, guesthouses, shops, communities and businesses.
“We expect a festive year this year and this can be seen by the sheer volume or orders we have received. Normally we do this in our spare time, working other jobs as well, but this year most of us have to work on the lanterns full time,” she added.
