Every little effort counts, and the more community participation, the greater the reduction of forest fires.

Villagers in Mae Rim district’s Huay Sai sub-district, collected 60,000 kgs of leaves and sticks, collected from community forest floors and agricultural waste last year, selling them at 1 baht per kilogram, earning 60,000 baht for community coffers. This year the target is to collect 100,000 baht’s worth of dry leaves.

Fertiliser and compost companies are buying these products and there are plans to expand this initiative across other districts.
