CityNews – The Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences (AMU), Chiang Mai University, have successfully conducted the world’s first elephant blood transfusion.
The research conducted by AMU under Associate Professor Dr. Preeyanart Wongchan, succeeded in transferring anti-elephant globulins after an elephant named Pangmodeepor lost significant amounts of blood through a vaginal prolapse.
The previously untested research was given the go-ahead to be tested on this elephant, after checking her blood for compatibility.
The blood transfusion has been praised worldwide and could lead to the idea of a blood bank for elephants, and also adds to the development of pathology research.
