CityNews – Chiang Mai’s moat water is safe for Songkran, after the final tests on the water were conducted yesterday.
The Deputy Mayor of Chiang Mai, along with a number of public health officers, representatives from Mae Jo and Chiang Mai Universities, the Provincial Waterworks Authority and the Environmental Office, gathered at the moat yesterday, April 10th, to check the quality of the water one more time before Songkran begins.
The water has undergone a series of both natural and chemical treatments over the last few weeks, including dredging, replacing old water with new water, restoring water using hyacinths and water lotuses that help absorb chemicals and impurities and treating the water with chlorine to eradicate bacteria.
This year, over 10,000 people are expected to use the moat water for Songkran, which this year has been extended by two days by the military government.
The water quality has been deemed safe to use for Songkran, but people are advised to avoid drinking it or swallowing it to protect their health.
