CityNews – On the night of August 12th, heavy rains caused significant flooding in many areas of Chaing Mai city, causing traffic congestion and some damage.
Areas that saw prominent flooding included the area of Wat Sri Ping Muang Municipality, Huay Kaew road (from the area around Srithana Commerical Chiang Mai Technological College to the Rin Kam intersection) as well as the area of Mae Rim Plaza. Flooding reached around 10 centimetres in some areas.
Flood waters have receded since last night after the rainfall stopped. However, Chiang Mai Municipality has stationed large mobile pumps in problematic areas around the city.
In Ban Huay Som Suk of Mae Rim’s Sa Luang sub-district, significant flooding caused damage to some residents’ homes. Locals that live near the side of the Ping River have been warned of potential overspill from the river bank, and have been advised to keep valuables in a safe place.
