CityNews – Durian consumption is estimated to be eight tonnes a day, revealed Chiang Mai Municipality.
It’s durian season and this year more produce is on the market. Nuttapat Jirajit, a durian vendor at Muang Mai Market revealed that durian produce has increased this year selling at average prices between 140 to 200 baht per kilo. This month the produce is mostly sourced from the east region of Thailand while in June the majority comes from Uttaradit province and southern part of Thailand.
Chiang Mai Municipality has revealed the amount of durian waste each day which is around eight tonnes, 60% of which is from the market and the rest is from households in the municipality area. To reduce disposal cost, most of the waste will be processed into fertiliser among other bio waste.
