Many tourists, mainly from Asian countries such as China and Malaysia, are enjoying renting out Lanna traditional costumes, which generally are rented for about 400 baht per day, and are seen here wandering the streets of Chiang Mai and taking photos – most often it seems at Tha Pae Gate.
According to the owner of Sweet Thapae Thai Costume, she has been very busy the past two months as Chinese, Japanese and Malaysian tourists have been heading to her shop to rent costumes for a day’s photo shoot.
She said that over the Loy Krathong Yi Peng weekend she noticed for the first time that many Thai visitors would bring their international friends or families to her shop to also rent costumes to take photos of the lantern festival.
