CityNews – Authorities are preparing for the upcoming rainy season after floods begin to plague the city.
Over the last few days, heavy rain has caused a number of floods in the Chiang Mai area. Authorities suggest that this year’s rainy season could be heavy, potentially causing many floods.
It has been revealed that from data collected last year, over 62% of Chiang Mai is at risk of flooding, of which 31% are considered high risk areas.
This year the Maejo area has already faced flooding due to heavy rain, well before the rainy season has even began. However, two of Chiang Mai’s major dams, the Mae Ngat and Mae Kuang dams, are currently at only 59% and 23% capacity respectively.
