Many convenience stores such as Lotus Express and 7-Elevens have been seen to close, whether for good or indefinitely, this past wave of the pandemic.
Over 10 branches of 7-Elevens in the city have now closed down along with countless small businesses.
According to Chamber of Commerce President Julnit Wangwiwat retail businesses have been some of the hardest hit and there is no sign of economic recovery as Chiang Mai is heavily reliant on the tourism industry which is currently dormant. He said that the Chamber of Commerce is currently gathering data and coming up with a city-wide recovery plan.
