CityNews – 30th March 2016, The Chiang Mai Land Transportation Department has announced the delay of the launch of the E-Driving test to June of this year due to the inability to connect the information from the E-Driving system to the communications system of the department. Director of the department, Chanchai Kilatang, announced that the system is now working very well and is of international standards, using a computer system to test three movements of driving during a test: reversing and driving forward, parking forward and reverse parking.
The system uses sensors to measure and record performances and an automated system offers results instantly. Should a driver fail, the test can be repeated again in three days. The testing area will also have CCTVs to further record performances. Director Chanchai said that this will make all tests transparent and there will be no possibility of cheating or favouritism. This system will be implemented in Chiang Mai, Khonkaen, Chonburi and Phuket, and two areas in Bangkok before being launched nationwide at a later date.
