CityNews – On October 27th over 1200 Hmong from all over Chiang Mai came together at the Mae Rim District Office to mourn and pay respect to HM the King.
Hmong people gathered in front of a portrait of His Majesty and stool inline to create a heart shape in homage of the late king in the district office’s courtyard. They also conducted a traditional Hmong ceremony for His Majesty’s ascendant to heaven.
A pledge was also made to the spirit of His Majesty the King to refrain from taking or cultivating drugs as it was His Majesty who set up the Royal Project which gave many thousands of Hmongs the means to develop and grow economically when opium cultivation was banned. They also pledged to help maintain the natural resources in the mountains and to fight against deforestation. They declared their dedication in following His Majesty’s advice and leadership in all endeavours.
