CityNews – 29th April 2020, reports from Baan Hmong Doi Pui village, which sits above Doi Suthep temple, of masses of food and goods being donated to the village which traditionally relies on tourism for its main income.
Lines of socially distanced villagers, many carrying home-made woven baskets to fill up with donated goods, have been receiving goods from various charities and organisations in the city.
The village has been in complete lockdown throughout this crisis, with no one allowed to enter and special permission required to leave. This has meant that there has been a severe shortage of food and other necessities.
An area has been set up at the gate of the village for this donation and reports are that it has been done in a very orderly manner.
The village chief said, “Though we were all promised 5,000 baht from the government, most of us haven’t received it yet. However, we are not going to complain. We just hope that the government will help push for the return of tourism when this is over so that we can earn an honest living.”
