CityNews – The Municipality is urged to solve the problem of the polluted moat.
After receiving complaints from local residents regarding the polluted moat on the west side of the old city, the municipality took urgent action to relieve the issue. The worrying part is that on the upper west side of the moat there has been unpleasant smells and the water has turned dark. Dead fish were reportedly seen. On April 24th, the municipality started to divert water from the canal to relieve the polluted water and increase the oxygen levels. Today, April 25th, EM is added to the moat to help purify the water.
The Deputy Mayor of Chiang Mai Municipality suspected Songkran Festival to be one of the causes while also the heavy rains that created a sudden change to the water which led to the shock for the fish. The municipality also found that polluted water has been leaked into the moat. The office is now investigating the source. The Deputy Mayor stated that the water is expected to be back to normal within a couple of days.
