CityNews – A ceremony was held in aid to promote a new protection project for the historical Yang Na trees on the Chiang Mai – Lamphun Road.
The Minister of Ministry of Culture, Veera Rojpojanarat, attended a blessing ceremony which aims to protect the historical Yang Na trees on the Chiang Mai – Lamphun road on January 5, as part of an initiative project that aims to treasure the historical trees across the country.
Of the 65 locations chosen all over the nation to be protected, four are in Chiang Mai including the Yang Na Trees on Chiang Mai – Lamphun Road, the giant Rain Tree at Chiangmai Gymkhana Club, the Yang Na Tree at Wat Chedi Luang and the Bastard Poom in San Pa Tong.
The project was inspired by a remark made by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn addressed to the governor of Chiang Mai on June 21st 2007 asking him to protect the Yang Na Trees on both sides of Chiang Mai – Lamphun Road as such a scene cannot be found anywhere else.
Veera said that trees are treasures of the nation, which reflect our history and beliefs and have been rooted in the local culture for a very long time – especially the Yang Na tree. He added that this project will not only preserve the historical context but will also enhance the tourism industry as an attraction for tourist who seek out nature.
