New U.S. Consul General Courtesy Call to Chiang Mai Governor

The new U.S. Consul General to Chiang Mai Lisa Buzenas paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Chiang Mai Nirat Pongsitthavorn. Following the meeting the Consul General gave a press briefing to local media.
According to the official website: Ms. Buzenas began her service as the Consul General in Chiang Mai in August 2022. Prior to this, Ms. Buzenas was the U.S. Embassy in Beijing’s Director of Public Engagement and concurrently acted as the U.S. Ambassador to China’s Chief of Staff. In Washington, she served as an advisor to the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, the top career U.S. diplomat, and as the Office of Pakistan Affairs’ Economic Unit Chief. Overseas, Ms. Buzenas served at the U.S. Mission to the European Union in Brussels; two tours in Islamabad, Pakistan; and in Bangkok, Thailand.
Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Ms. Buzenas was a management consultant supervising a large team leading economic reconstruction projects in Iraq. She is a native of Texas and received her BBA from the University of Texas at Austin and her MBA in International Finance from the George Washington University. Ms. Buzenas is joined in Thailand by her son and speaks Mandarin and Thai.
