Opening of Loy Krathong Festival 2024 / Yi Peng Festival 2024 at Thapae Gate, presided over by the Governor of Chiang Mai Province; Nirat Pongsitthithaoworn and the Mayor of Chiang Mai City; Assanee Buranupakorn.
Chiang Mai Municipality, together with network organizations, organized the annual Chiang Mai Yi Peng Festival 2024 in a grand manner to continue the Lanna tradition under the concept of “Mae Raming’s Charm, Local Arts and Culture”. According to Mr. Atsanee Booranaupakorn, Mayor of Chiang Mai, regarding the details of the annual Chiang Mai Yi Peng Festival 2024 under the concept of “Mae Raming’s Charm, Local Arts and Culture”, Chiang Mai Municipality has integrated with network organizations from all sectors to organize the annual Chiang Mai Yi Peng Festival 2024 from 14-17 November 2024 in full. This year’s important activities include the grand Krathong parade competition for the royal trophy of His Majesty the King, which features grand performances and the city’s bright and beautiful decorations with Lanna lanterns and the installation of forest gates throughout Chiang Mai. The grandest with the auspicious light arch to honor His Majesty the King on the occasion of the auspicious ceremony of His Majesty the King’s 6th cycle birthday anniversary on Thapae Road. The performance combines light, sound, and mixed media with grand special techniques. The Lanna Sapao parade contest, the Chiang Mai Yi Peng Goddess – God contest, the Chiang Mai Yi Peng Little Boy contest, the fresh flower banana leaf krathong contest, the Lanna Sapao making contest, the Lanna Yi Peng lantern contest (large hanging lanterns), the release of Lanna krathong strings, the Luk Thung singing contest with dancers, the ceremony to worship the spirit house, the white pagoda, and ask for forgiveness from the Ping River, the royal dharma setting tradition, and many more cultural performances, which will definitely be grand and magnificent. The mayor of Chiang Mai City emphasized the safety measures for organizing the annual Yi Peng festival in 2024, saying that Chiang Mai City Municipality has fully prepared to deal with public disasters, both officials and various equipment, including inspecting the stability and strength of various piers where people will float krathongs. And we ask for cooperation from participants to refrain from releasing floating lanterns and smoke lanterns in Chiang Mai Municipality, according to the announcement of Chiang Mai Province. Absolutely no alcoholic beverages in public places and government offices, including the refrain from lighting giant firecrackers, so that this year’s Yi Peng festival will be a joyful festival that everyone will be impressed with and will be as safe as possible.
