We were super excited to be invited by TAT Chiang Rai to visit Phayao this week, as Phayao is a destination we have always adored visiting, but for some reason rarely find our way there.
The new TAT campaign for Phayao is to invite tourists for an inspiring monsoon visit to the slumbering province. TAT is offering up all sorts of deals and steals to lure you to Phayao, including discounts for those who check in to the 16 participating hotels and 50 participating restaurants, bars, tourist activities and businesses – there will be 100 baht free e-coupons to download from the website.
Wisut Buachum, Director of TAT Chiang Rai said, “The green season is the time to visit this charming province; to explore and discover what is hidden behind hills, in mountains, on lakes and around every corner. There are verdant green paddy fields, lush thick jungle, breathtaking vistas, deep pure culture and so much more to this wonderful province that is often skipped over. Kwan Phayao is a magical spot, a large lake next to Phayao town deep with culture and history. In the light of dawn, visitors can give out alms to monks who wander by the rim of the lake, enjoying a delicious array of breakfasts from local vendors plying their trade. You can then head off onto the lake on a boat to visit the beautiful temple which sits on an island in the middle. Then there is the Pha Chang Noi Phu Lanka, a ‘sea of mist’ which is particularly lovely at this time of the year.
There are many village communities to visit such as Baan San Klaep Dam community where you can learn how to fish and get to know how the locals live, eat, play. A charming 200 metre wall featuring paintings of local legends and stories is a pleasant stroll and no visit to Phayao is complete without sitting at a fabulous viewpoint somewhere, perhaps with a cold drink in hand, watching the sunset over the lake.
If you love your temples, then Phayao will not disappoint, being home to a number of sacred and special temples well worth exploring such as Wat Analyo Tipayaram, Wat Nantaram, Wat Sri Khom Kham, Wat Srichum and Wat Huay Pha Kieng. There are also many outdoors and soft adventure activities to indulge in such as sup boarding, bamboo rafting, trekking and many more.
TAT Phayao along with Phayao Chamber of Commerce, the Phayao Tourism Business Association, the Restaurant and Bar Association, YEC and many business operators have come together to offer a plethora of meaningful and fun travel experiences for both first time visitors and returning ones.
Visit Phayao between August and September under the Green Season campaign to receive between 10-30% discounts and numerous privileges.
