Oh my! We have never really had an all American breakfast before, even though we have often seen stacks of pancakes served on television and in the movies, so were terribly excited when we were invited to check out the new(ish) Lady and the Fox – an All-American breakfast and lunch diner near Jing Jai Village.
Bright, cheery and welcoming, this bustling family diner enjoys an open bar kitchen where diners can see Chef and owner Cici working her magic in the kitchen, sending out a steady stream of goodies from her counter.
Cici is Thai born but spent many decades in Los Angeles running two hugely successful restaurants, one of which was Cici’s Cafe, which has been featured in multiple prime time media, promoted by many celebrities and beloved by her customers. In fact, Cici’s Cafe has been noted by Localish as ‘Worth the wait’, due in large part for her gigantic menu of delights. She has since handed her businesses to her children and decided to return to Thailand, settling here in Chiang Mai where she has opened up her newest restaurant, Lady and the Fox.
Cici’s menu highlights include her pancake stacks which range from the Uber popular tiramisu pancake to the enticing red velvet pancakes with fresh strawberries, mascarpone cream sauce, Nutella, Oreos and whipped cream!
There are numerous pancakes (though nowhere near the 80 pancakes she offers in her LA diner) ranging from Muscat matcha to mango cheesecake pancakes, banoffee or blueberry cheesecake pancakes, chocolate velvet to strawberry bomb pancakes. her selection of French toasts, stacked with goodies and brimming with flavour also run the gamut from caramel crème to chocolate brioche. And make sure to order Cici’s unique chocolate S’mores Favalance which will, “sweep you off your feet with its rich chocolate, gooey marshmellos, and crunchy Oreo cracker goodness.”
While her sweet dishes are a must, with cakes, croissants, cookies, and all manner of creative dishes designed to sweeten your tooth, Cici also serves up great savoury dishes ranging from classic American breakfasts to pastas, steaks, sandwiches and salads. There are creamy dips to go with thick crunchy bread and even some healthier options such as fruit salad if you need a break from the sweet goodness.
Lady and the Fox is a fantastic destination for a lazy Sunday brunch (no alcohol is served at this point, but Cici says that they are working on it), a hearty morning meal, or just to pop in anytime during the day to treat yourself with some fabulous bites. Portions are not small, so make sure you come hungry – or with company!
