In the heart of Nimman area, you will find one of the most colourful café there is in Chiang Mai. But trust me, it’s not the bright paint that beckons…but the unmistakable smell of durian!
Did you know durian could go THIS well with chocolate? Bet you didn’t know either that here serves the best of the best taro espresso in town, and don’t even mention the durian cake… Literally the heaven on earth for my fellow durian lovers.
Coffee, toast, even cakes, anything you can and cannot think of is combined with durian to a just-fine level. You cannot afford to miss this one-of-a-kind durian feast.
Some dishes did cause me to pause…durian spicy salad? Durian pizza? If that tickles your fancy, go for it…though I wasn’t so brave!
The menu is extensive, but not durian in everything. Apart from the special coffee menu that adds a flavour of durian to regular coffee and milk shakes, the rest is just regular coffee, smoothies, tea, milk tea, soda and fruit chocolate.
The most significant part of Durianism Café has got to be their snack and pastry menus. Whether you prefer sweet or savoury or, of course, durian, there has to be at least one that will catch your attention.
Ice cream, sticky rice, cake, pizza… There’s nothing durian can’t go well with here. Or do it’s damnest to anyway!
But of course, there is a regular menu as well, of salads, Thai dishes, and Korean fried chicken… You really can have it all. Except the price here is slightly higher than average food stands, but worth it, right?
There are two floors in the café, hang out and chat on the first floor, or go up to the second floor where you get to work and read for an entire day with sunshine through the window and the aroma of durian all over the place. There is also a ball pit and a colouring station for kids on the second floor, those will make great pictures for the family photo album.
That being said, the atmosphere here can be concluded in one word — cheerful. From the significant bright green all over the place, to the animal sculptures and durian stuffies randomly seen in every corner; from the tall cherry blossom tree on the second floor, to wooden furniture that looks like a perfect match to the sunlight… It’s just like a picnic, but indoors.
