If you find yourself in Phayao there are few spots as charming as the Ban Ton Tao Cafe/Restaurant/Garden and Homestay. Set in a charming little garden – organic no less! – Ban Ton Tao is in Ban Bua, a sufficiency village which is just a short drive around the lake from Phayao town.
Stop in for a cup of lovely coffee, a wander in nature, a meditative chill by a stream and also a delicious feast of Thai and local food, all locally grown and organically sourced. It is all very sweet and localised and using only the healthiest and the best ingredients, even in their baked products which are all lovingly made in their own oven.
Food runs the gamut of northern faves such as sai-ua, hang-le, pad krapao and chili dips, while they also have some special in house recipes well worth exploring. This is the season to visit, with everything lush and green and if you are looking for a perfect weekend escape, then here you go!
