We may have seen the last of this year’s rains, and if so, winter and her cool breezes is here. Chiang Mai is at her loveliest over the coming months, as trees remain green and verdant from the recent rains and the skies open up blue and bright.
If you are looking for a winter escape that is short and close, then drive the half hour out of the city centre to Mae Rim’s Chic 39, a unique and very different cafe which will transport you to another place.
From dawn to dark, the kitchen serves up delicious fare by the fastidious chef who scours Chiang Mai for the freshest and best produce, bringing it back to the kitchen to create dishes from pasta in white sauce to avocado and salmon salad. There are classic Thai dishes such as the pork green curry and pineapple fried rice, as well as more exotic fare such as aromatic rotis and fusion dishes combining Thai flavours and western cooking techniques.
And make sure to leave room for the home made cheese cake or chocolate cake, washed down by some hot coffee or tea.
Whether you want to stop by for an afternoon fruit smoothie or an evening meal, the kitchen is open.
There are plenty of cosy corners to sit and sink into while taking in the lovely views of surrounding nature.
