If you live in Hang Dong, especially near Baan Wang Tarn, you are in for a treat (and we over here in Nimman are quite envious!). Chef Phubase Chuprakong, who ran Akyra Hotel’s Italics’s restaurant for many years, has opened up his second new restaurant, and this one is overlooking a lake in Hang Dong.
Cool breezes, sounds of trickling water, floating lotus flowers and sumptuous lounge seats to sink in all day long is the backdrop to the highlight of Viva Aquila and Vay Cafe, which is the pizzas!
Unlike Chef Phubase’s other restaurant, Aquila behind the Promenada, Viva and Vay is all about casual dining.
The menu reflects this and offers up a pretty hard-to-choose selection of pizzas as well as some pastas, sandwiches, salads and less fancy one-dish meals.
The pizzas though are what we are writing home about. Chef Phubase’s signature thin and crispy Italian crust is the perfect canvas for his many toppings creations which includes an intriguing club pizza a la club sandwich, the house special simply oozing truffles, the burrito and Serrano ham and the Thai favourite the spicy seafood pizza.
All day long you can enjoy a free coffee with your pizza and there are the usual selections of sodas and smoothies. If you are wanting to make an evening of it all then there is a solid, if limited, selection of wines and drinks, though as is typical in Chiang Mai, for a corkage fee you can bring your own bottle.
A great place to stop by for a lazy afternoon, a casual lunch, a spot of work over coffee or a meal at anytime of the day.
Those living within three kilometres of Viva Aquila and Vay Cafe can get their pizzas delivered for free and maybe if we all call enough they will extend the reach!
