As spas have become morแe accessible and affordable worldwide, a generation of spa connoisseurs has emerged. Thankfully, Thailand had a head start in the global spa industry, recognising early on that our ancient massage and healing traditions, along with our famed hospitality, eye for design and world-renowned service all come together to create winning spa recipes. That is why Thailand’s many spas are regularly ranked amongst some of the best in the world and tourists flock through the thousands of aromatic spa doors across the country daily. With such a thriving industry, the true winners to emerge are customers, who, with each new spa experience, have come to expect more; better treatments, greater service, lovelier setting…

Chiang Mai’s Makkha Spa was fortunate enough to have had a head start in the spa game, opening its doors 6 years ago in October 13th  ,2016. The original Makkha Spa Ancient House is set in a charming 60 year old traditional Lanna, northern Thai, teak house. Immaculately renovated with gleaming teak floors, intricately carved pannelling, sexy mood lighting and deeply comfortable furniture. The tiny wooden house is surrounded by an intimate, but lush, tropical garden complete with sounds of trickling water and set in the heart of the old city of Chiang Mai. Visitors to the Ancient House are embraced in a cultural cocoon where the aromas of traditional herbs blend with hints of scented candles as customers are lulled while highly skilled therapists and masseuses work their magic.

Understanding that customers often expect different experiences from their spa treatments, Makkha Spa then opened the Makkha Health & Spa Colonial gardens just around the corner, elevating the spa experience with a modern looking spa offering hints of the glories of the colonial era architecture and design. High glass ceilings, vertical walls of plants and plenty of sunlight makes for a vibrant and fresh day spa experience.

While we all would love to indulge in a half or full day spa experience, most of us simply don’t have the time as often as we would like. That is why Makkha Health & Spa Night Bazaar was opened in the centre of Chiang Mai’s bustling Night Bazaar district. As tourists grow tired from shopping and wandering the busy streets, they can pop into the cool natural earth toned interior of the city spa, seeking quick treatment and great relief and calm.

Having developed a reputation for exactingly and consistently high standards, Makkha Spa recently opened yet another city branch so that its customers could access their services from yet another old city location – at Makkha Health & Spa Burirattana Hotel. This sleek, modern, black and white themed spa sits on the popular Sunday Walking Street and is a great spot to escape from the madding crowds for some personal pampering.

While each location of Makkha Spa offers up a unique ambiance, one thing that all customers can expect is the excellent service for which the brand has received countless awards. Each professional therapist is highly trained, having completed theoretical as well as practical courses amounting to over 300 hours and certified by the Ministry of Health. All treatments use standardised techniques to ensure the highest quality massage with guaranteed relief from stress. All products used in Makkha Spas, whether oils, bed linen and towel products or soaps and shampoos are from Wan Waan brand, known for their unique natural scents and mild formulations designed to soothe the skin.

Makkha Spas will pick up and drop off customers from all city locations. Upon arrival customers will be given a foot wash before treatment begins as they sip a fresh herbal drink. Post treatment, customers are offered up a delicious local Thai dessert before they head out into the hustle of bustle of life.
