A Charity Performance by Youths helping Youths Project
Once a year lovers of ballet come together at Kad Theatre to watch a spectacular performance produced by ATOD Children and Youth Development Association, showing off the skills and
talents of hundreds of Chiang Mai’s budding and professional dancers. For well over a decade now ATOD Children and Youth Development Association has been putting on this annual extravaganza where children and dancers spend months practicing, parents and dressmakers spend weeks putting together wonderful outfits and choreographers and teachers work tirelessly to showcase their students, all to create a memorable performance.
Students of dance regularly compete in a variety of local, national as well as international competitions. They also compete amongst one another, with the winners being selected to take the position of lead dancers in the annual performance. This is also a chance for students to contribute towards those less privileged as the event has always acted as a fundraiser to help those in need. Not only do they get to dance, learn skills, exercise and socialise, the students, by performing in such a highly regarded event, also get to add to their portfolio, as many leave school for higher education in their preferred fields. This year, Hans Christian Anderson’s classic tale The Little Mermaid, has been chosen as it allows for so many characters to shine and perform. It is also a tale which may date over a century, but which has great relevance today in our globally connected lives where we must interact and understand one another, often across cultures and other challenging divides.
Proceeds from this performance will be donated to underprivileged and orphan youths in Chalermprakiet 48th Pansa School under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. If you are interested in supporting these youths, then it costs a mere 9,000 baht per person per year. With 450 youths in need, every baht counts. The Artistic Director of this performance is Mom Luang Preeyapun Sridhavat; an Asia-Pacific Inspired Woman Award winner 2002 from Singapore; an outstanding ASEAN Woman Entrepreneur Award winner 2015 from Vietnam and an Avril Binzer Memorial Award winner 2019 for Outstanding Person in Dance Education from Australia as an Artistic Director. ATOD Children and Youth Development Association would like to thank Thai Airways International PCL, Government Lottery Office and Australian Teachers of Dancing International.
