Chiang Mai is a beautiful environment to bring up children with a wealth of family activities to be enjoyed. It is truly a children’s playground.
First and foremost, there is the great outdoors. Nothing is better for kids than getting out in the fresh air and there are many natural spaces to explore as a family. Hike through the mountains, paddle in streams, swim in lakes, bathe in a hot pool or shower in a waterfall – all those are available less than a 30-minute drive from the city and kids love it. And if you fancy an overnight adventure, there are plenty of family-friendly camping sites, homestays or guest houses to rest their heads after an active day.
Outdoor activities do have to be curtailed during the hideous annual pollution season. Many families use this ghastly annual event to escape Chiang Mai and make for the beach. But for those who cannot get away, there are plenty of indoor activities for children to blow of steam. Every shopping mall has a children’s soft play area and there are other more specialised activities from trampolining to climbing walls.
In terms of clubs and activities, families are also not short of choice. Sports, dance, drama, music, cooking, art – the list is endless and keeps parental taxi service busy.
