With the end of the season in sight, after a busy year, the Chiang Mai Cobras Rugby Club hosted its continuing World Rugby education program. This is the second time the Cobras & World Rugby have held World Rugby courses in Chiang Mai this year, giving Thai & Expat rugby enthusiasts, the opportunity to educate and get certified, to World Rugby standards.
On Friday 29 November, a one day First Aid in Rugby & Rugby 15s Coaching Level one course, were completed. With many local Thai coaches enrolled, along with Expats from around the region, both courses were well attended. The excellent facilities at the Thai National Sports University Chiang Mai Campus (TNSU) was the venue. Word Rugby Educator of the Thai Rugby Union (TRU), Pui Nu Leng, flew in from Bangkok to teach the First Aid part of the courses whilst Educator, Toprit Lekkijcharoenchai put the 15’s coaching candidates through their paces.
On Saturday & Sunday, things got a bit more serious when WR Educator Malcolm Maximillian came up from Singapore to run the Coaching 15s Level 2 course. All the candidates, from Cobras Rugby Club, Kowloon RFC & Rugby School Bangkok, passed with flying colours. With coaches from Chiang Mai Cobras, Chaing Mai All Stars, CMU Purple Blacks & Chiang Rai Rugby all completing their relevant courses, means that these teams all comply with TRU 2025 competition rules that state all teams must have at least one First Aid & one level one coach on their staff to compete in any TRU sanctioned event.
World Rugby would like to thank Cobras Rugby Club and Dave McRitchie for organizing & sponsoring the event and being generious hosts to all the educators.
Thank you to all the participants who attended and were very focused on doing online tests, submitting assignments and doing class Q&A. It greatly enhances both the educators and the coaches.
Thank you Paduiis “Pui” Puiz and Chitchanok “Nu” Yusri for investing their time and flying up from Bangkok, along with Toprit Lekkijcharoenchai, for coming to educate and pass on their extensive knowledge to the participants. Thanks also go to Khun Kiattichai Noptakul, who was instrumental in helping with the organising. With so many local coaches getting certified it will be beneficial to all the players who go training, and no doubt it will show in higher skill levels, across the teams, in the 2025 season.
