This Sunday, 2nd April will be the first day of the annual cricket sixes tournament held at the Chiengmai Gymkhana Club. This will be the 30th year of the tournament which sees around 30 teams come from all over the world to play in a week-long tournament. Held between the northern and southern hemisphere cricket seasons, the Chiang Mai Sixes sees around 300 players annually.
Everyone is welcome to this very social event. Last year was the first year a local team, the UN Irish Pub, won the tournament, and this year will see local teams such as Floggers & Robbers and Gymkhana Cavalier compete with visiting teams from the UK, Australia, Bahrain, Greece, Vietnam, and for the first time, Finland.
Many Thai youths on the national team will also be competing and there is a small ladies’ tournament with amateur local Thai and expat women competing against the reigning Thai Angles, a team of talented young Thai lady cricketers.
Lovers of cricket come along any time between 8.30am and 5pm from this Sunday to Saturday 8th. There are areas for spectators, a large bar as well as food catered by Duke’s amongst other popular local restaurants. There is no entrance fee and a guarantee of good cricket and good fun.
