Lanna Lions have kicked off their pre season program and have started their youth development program for 2021.
28 kids of all ages, both male and female, were down at Lions home ground in San Kampaeng as Lions founder Thomas Stubley, Dtun and new ladies coach Erin put the kids through their paces.
It was obvious from the smiles, laughter and enthusiasm, that the kids had missed these sessions so much, during the mid year shut down. One thing was for sure, they hadn’t forgotten the basic skills they had learned previously and were keen to show that!
After the warm up the kids were put through some basic passing drills to get them back into the feel of things and then they were divided up into four teams for some touch rugby games. With the laughter ringing around the ground the fun was brought to an end as the session was over. They are all eager to get back next week to continue their rugby journey and who knows where that may end up.
Tom was happy to be back and said “It’s incredible the sort of response we are getting from the parents and children that are coming down. The future is looking bright for rugby in Chiang Mai!”.
Erin has been a keen supporter and is taking on a more active role this season and has put together a team of girls who are the base of the newly formed Lanna Lionesses team.
With the new league season just around the corner the men’s team are into full on training mode and with the girls joining in the sessions it makes for a competitive atmosphere. Its obvious that the intensity is building with the lads looking forwards to their first game of the season.
